The Food You Donate

The Bulgarian Food Bank is a registered operator, complies to food safety standards, and guarantees delivery of safe and quality food to people in need.

BFB is a partner to the food industry and works accepts food only from registered manufacturers and retailers.

We can accept:

  • short-dated food;
  • good food in date with wrong labeling and packaging;
  • surplus seasonal food;
  • withdrawn promotion food;
  • order rejections;
  • suitable bulk ingredients for manufacturing;
  • foreign label stock;
  • poor product appearance, but intact packaging.

Types of food we can accept:

  • Meat and meat products;
  • Eggs and egg-based products;
  • Milk and milk-based products;
  • Fruits and vegetables;
  • Refrigerated and frozen food;
  • Drinks with or without temperature-controlled storage requirements;
  • Dried, packed and canned food;
  • Cereals, legume and pasta;
  • Long or short-dated bakery;
  • Chocolate products;
  • Flour, bread and bread products;
  • Vegetable fats and oils;
  • Spices;
  • Tea, Coffee and Cacao;
  • Baby food.

Types of food we cannot accept:

  • Out of date food;
  • Food without papers indicating its origin;
  • Food that has been warmed or prepared, such as buffet or event food but not properly stored;
  • Homemade or home-canned food.

Donated food is to be accompanied by papers, certifying its quality, expiration date and safety.

If you would like to donate food as an individual, we can refer you to a charity we work with.
